Making children’s dental checkups feel safe
How we introduce the chair, what we check, and when sealants or fluoride actually help — without rushing little patients.

Children’s checkups are about prevention, confidence, and catching small problems early — not drilling on the first visit unless something hurts.
What a gentle visit looks like
- A calm introduction to the chair and instruments
- Counting teeth, checking gums, and looking for early decay
- Advice on brushing, snacks, and fluoride when helpful
- Fissure sealants or fluoride varnish only when they add real benefit
How often to come
Most children do well with six-monthly reviews. High-risk diets or previous decay may need closer intervals. We will say so clearly rather than defaulting to a one-size-fits-all recall.
Book a children’s checkup with Dr Tom Hughes — designed to feel safe for nervous little patients and their parents.
